Will my electric wheelchair be covered by my insurance provider?
Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance companies provide coverage for durable medical equipment such as electric wheelchairs. If you are not sure whether or not your insurance provides such coverage, we can contact your insurance for you to find out.
How much of the cost of my electric wheelchair will be covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies will pay between 50% and 80% of a set allowable price for electric wheelchairs. The amount that your insurance company pays will depend in part on the type of electric wheelchair you need and on the state in which you live.
Who will pay for the amount that my insurance does not cover?
Most secondary insurance providers will pay for what your primary insurance does not pay. If you don't have secondary insurance, or the cost would create a financial hardship, special consideration can be made to help you get the electric wheelchair.
How do I find out if I qualify?
Most insurance providers require your doctor to fill out a form that is called a Certificate of Medical Necessity. This form has several questions which assess your mobility. If he feels that you need an electric wheelchair, he will fill out this form, and send it back to Orbit Medical with a written prescription, and office visit notes which support your need for an electric wheelchair. Upon receiving these forms, we will submit them to your insurance to find out if you qualify.
How do I submit a claim to my insurance for an electric wheelchair?
As an authorized provider for electric wheelchairs, Orbit Medical will take care of all the paperwork for you. Once we have received your doctor's approval, we will send the necessary documentation to your insurance company for approval.
How do I choose which wheelchair will be the best for me?
Our mobility specialists are trained to help you determine which electric wheelchair will be best for your height, weight, and intended use.
